Erosional Features
The same forces of wind, water and ice that shape all landforms whether a thousand km inland or along a river also shape coastlines. Erosion gouges out and moves material away while deposition lays down new layers and the coastal landforms created vary greatly.
Cliffs

Cliffs are formed where the land meeting the sea is hilly or mountainous.
Bays and Headlands

Where there is a cliff, some rock materials erode faster than
others sometimes forming bays and headlands.

Arches and Stacks

Where there are bays and headlands, wave energy is concentrated on the headlands and
spread out in the bays. This energy chips away at the headland often forming arches and stacks.
